Knights of Columbus

The history of the Knights of Columbus begins with its founding in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney at St. Mary’s Parish in New Haven, Connecticut, United States. The Knights of Columbus was initially a mutual benefit society for a membership of practicing male Catholics. Today, it advocates for Catholic causes and provides a range of philanthropic and support services to Catholic institutions worldwide.

The Fourth Degree is the most prestigious degree within the Knights of Columbus. It’s the highest level a Knight can become, upon completion the title of Sir Knight is bestowed to the member. Fourth Degree members are a group of outstanding Sir Knights who are dedicated to the service of God, country and the Order.

Homewood

Parish History

With its origins beginning in the village hall of Homewood in 1912, the Parish of Saint John Neumann today serves over 1500 families in the south suburbs. In 2012, Saint Joe’s celebrated its Centennial – 100 years of faith in Homewood.

Flossmoor

Parish History

Father Burke, the pastor of St. Joseph parish, Homewood, IL was assigned the task of organizing a mission church in Flossmoor in 1954. A new church named in honor of the Infant Jesus of Prague was built on Flossmoor Road at Leavitt Avenue. Father Burke said the first Mass in this church on Christmas Eve 1954 and the edifice was formally dedicated on June 24, 1955. Infant Jesus remained a mission of St. Joseph’s until 1957. 

The former parishes of IJP in Flossmoor, St. Lawrence O’Toole in Matteson and St. Irenaeus in Park Forest were combined as St. Veronica Parish as of 2022.
